My dear Mikah . . .

Its been almost a year now since I last wrote something. I am now a mommy to my baby boy. God is so Good.

I find it difficult to start writing since a lot of things has happened in the cattery. When I became pregnant, I was advised by my oby not to attend to the cats personally due to the parasitic disease called Toxoplasmosis. The parasite infects most genera of warm-blooded animals, including humans. Cats have been shown as a major reservoir of this infection. But I was constantly monitoring the welfare of the cats and dogs in the shelter through their caretakers.

When I gave birth last July, i gave myself one month to recuperate. last September, I was telling my husband that I am ready to visit the shelter and that I miss the cats terribly. Thats when he decided to drop the bomb. That my most beloved queen of the cattery, Mikah, died when I was just 6 months pregnant. I had a very complicated pregnancy that they decided not to tell me.

I was heartbroken of course. During the first 4 months of my pregnancy, I always dream of her. I was looking forward to the day when I can see her, and hold her again.

I never thought that day would never come again.

Until today, I haven’t had the courage to visit the shelter.

To my dear mikah girl. I am so sorry baby. Mommy feels guilty. I should have taken extra care of you. I miss you so much.

    That’s OK Mama,

I’d like to think she gave up her life so we can have our miracle – our very own baby boy!

Cons! Hello! So good to see you back, I’m so sorry about little Mikah, it’s very sad that she has gone, she was a sweetheart. Congratulations on the arrival of your son. I wish you all and the animals you help much happiness!

    Hi jane,

    Thank you for your concern.

I still miss my baby mikah. But Im trying to be strong for my other cats and dogs. I dont get to see then often. Not yet since my baby is still 3 months old (and was born through a caesarian section so his immune system is not as developed as babies that were born the natural way). When he is 6 months old and has built up his immune system, I will be active again.

But I do take a close watch at the caretakers in the shelter. What I do is that i “bribe” the caretakers. When Im in the grocery, I buy milk formula for the baby of my female caretaker and extra groceries for everybody in the shelter hoping that they would feel “Guilty” about not taking good care of the animals and would think twice about breaking the shelter rules for fear that they might lose their “precious” jobs. hehehe

I really am glad to hear from you. I will be posting a slide show of pictures from the shelter soon. Please watch out for it.
