In hope: An animal shelter story

A friend emailed me this heartbreaking video.

As a nation, we claim to love cats and dogs. Millions of households have pets, and billions of dollars are spent yearly on pet supplies and food. But as a nation, we should take a hard, sobering look at a different annual statistic: the millions of dogs and cats given up to shelters or left to die on the streets. And the numbers tell only half the story.

Every cat or dog who dies as a result of pet overpopulation—whether humanely in a shelter or by injury, disease, or neglect—is an animal who, more often than not, would have made a wonderful companion, if given the chance. Tremendous as the problem of pet overpopulation is, it can be solved if each of us takes just one small step, starting with not allowing our animals to breed. Here’s information about this crisis and why spaying and neutering is the first step to a solution. -HSUS

Yes, the video is moving …. it is heartbreaking. But the real question is, are you, in your own little way, going to do something about it? It is not enough to feel pity for these animals. As an individual, we should do something to solve this problem. We should act on it, NOW. If we really CARE, then we must go out of our way to do something for these animals. Support programs that helps educate people on how to become responsible pet owners. Let us promote animal spaying/neutering.

We can’t thank you enough for all your great work! Our staff does not have green papers – but they give what they can spare – unfortunately we think that what really needs to happen is a big shift in education. A lot of people are ignorant and believe animals can be treated as materials. As long as people do not realize that ALL beings are equal and ALL beings have to be treated with respect and love…….. We keep hoping……
On a happier note we want to thank you for coming to our blogoversary party and celebrate with us! It wouldn’t have been as much fun without you – and we hope you had a great time too and not too much of a hang-over, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
